The Search for Delia Duval: Two

The search for Delia Duval, one of my great grandmothers, continues!

As I mentioned in my last post, I reached out to several kin directly as well as messaged a handful of people on Ancestry.com. Some of the Ancestry connections were DNA matches and a few simply had Delia in their tree and I was curious about their connection.

I sent seven messages and heard back from four people… great response rate!

Three knew little to nothing but were happy to be connected.

The fourth said she’d ask her in-laws as they are my kin, she just manages the tree.

Then, just a few days later I received this email:

Hello Melissa,

I hope this finds you well. I asked my husband’s sister if she had any information on Delia Duval. She had a couple photos with her grandmother Myra Julia Duval and her sisters. She was not sure which sister is Delia. But in the photo with four of the sisters, Myra is on the right and in the photo with the six sisters Myra is in the first row, third from the left. You may have these photos but if not, I hope they are helpful.

Best,

C

And so, there she is!

Well, in there somewhere :-)

I cannot tell you how pleased and grateful I am to see these photos!

So here’s my question for the collective Hive Mind:

If we know for certain that Delia is the youngest daughter and that Myra is the second youngest…

And if we know for certain that in the top pic Myra is in the front row, third from the left…

Does that mean that Delia is sitting next to her, second from the left, with the book in her hands?

And then…

In the second photo, if we know for certain that Myra is on the right (essentially at 3 o’clock)…

Does that mean that Delia is at the bottom center (essentially 6 o’clock)?

C and I have emailed back and forth a few times and think we’ve figured it out, but I’d also love to hear your thoughts based on the known ages as well as facial features! It’s so wild to look upon the faces of kin and know so little but feel so much!

Please have a look and let me know what you think :-) Thanks in advance!

Onward,

Melis
