Hello and Welcome to X Day!
Wonder of all wonders, I can, in fact fulfill a direct lineage X name!
Name:
Xainte du Pont
Vital Information:
Xainte was born about 1595 in Sanit-Jean-de-Mortagne, Perche, France and died in 1680 in Chateau-Richer (Quebec, Canada).
Relation to Me:
Xainte is my paternal 10x great grandma.
Tidbits/Characteristics/Commonalities:
Xainte is a French variation of Sainte, which is a French form of Sancta, which is derived from Latin and means: Sacred, Divine, or Holy.
Xainte married Zacharie Cloutier on 18 July 1616 at the church of Saint-Jean in Mortagne, France. She was a 20-year-old widow (having married her first husband when she was 16), he was 25.
The couple brought six children into the world between 1617 and 1632 in Perche, France.
In March of 1634, Zacharie, a Master Carpenter, signed a three-year contract and migrated to New France (now Quebec) with his eldest son, Zacharie Jr (my 9x great grandpa). Xainte and four of their children followed in 1635 or 1636.
Xainte died on 14 July 1680 and was buried in Chateau-Richer the following day.

Beyond these simple facts, there is not much known about Xainte herself. There have been books written about life in New France and I hope to read them all one day, but I imagine it was an incredibly challenging experience to leave the only home you’ve known to move to wild parts unknown.
And yet she did, and she survived.
It is said that, from the single union of Zacharie and Xainte, more than 85,000 descendants have been born. We all know how the ripples expand in families, but these numbers still blow my mind.
Some of the more famous descendants include Justin Trudeau, Angelina Jolie, Jim Carrey, Madonna, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Celine Dion, Ricky Gervais, Ryan Gosling, Jack Kerouac, Beyonce, Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morissette, Chris Pratt, Alex Trebek, Justin Bieber, Shania Twain, and Derek and Julianne Hough.
I guess with those numbers, there’s got to be a celebrity or two in the mix, no? 😉
In Your Research…
Have you found documentation for any ancestors who were among the “first” to a “new” world?
“Pioneers/Settlers/Colonizers…”
Xainte and Zacharie are my first known/proven colonizer ancestors and it all begs for much reflection.

My theme for the 2025 A to Z Challenge is Kin! The first names of direct lineage kin, to be more specific.
I’m spending the majority of the month focusing on the first names of many of my direct lineage kin. I’ll include their full names, any vital information I’ve found in my research, their relation to me, any fun tidbits/characteristics/experiences, and any commonalities I may have gleaned between myself and them.
In a couple of cases, where I have not identified an ancestor whose first name starts with a particular letter, I will choose a unique middle name, a direct line surname, and/or ancestral lands/places of significance.

X is a hard letter in the A-to-Z challenge. I love that you have a relative with an X to make this letter flow, Xainte.

I was so excited when I remembered! Such an interesting name variant! I love it!
Xainte is a beautiful name! I simply can’t wrap my mind around the 85,000 descendant numbers.
It is truly mind boggling. Lots of children having lots of children for many generations. Wild how it all adds up!
That’s a lot of famous cousins!
For a previous A-Z Challenge, I worked out my relationship to a not-so-famous, but very cool ancestor: https://www.joyweesemoll.com/2022/04/19/p-is-for-prather-atozchallenge/
Thank you so much for sharing your Prather post! She was *fantastic!
Wow, their influence was very much felt. And congrats on having an X name in the mix. Nice.
The Cloutier line has proven helpful for some interesting names, stories, and posts!
